Research interests
My research interests are related to the Russian 18th century. I have written three books devoted to the mentality of the Russian elite; mechanisms of control and channels of representation of the autocracy; the legal consciousness of Russian society. My current research is connected with the history of the death penalty in the 16th-19th centuries: in particular, the monarch's monopoly on violence and mercy and the consequences of the long moratorium on the death penalty in 18th century Russia.
